<p>Gold can be expected to rise to the next resistance level 4200.00 (which stopped the previous impulse wave i).</p>

<p>Gold recently reversed up from the support area located between the long-term support level 3950.00 (which has been reversing the price from last November, as can be seen from the daily Gold chart below), and the lower daily Bollinger Band. The upward reversal from this support area stopped the earlier minor  ABC correction ii of the intermediate impulse wave (1) from the end of June. This intermediate impulse wave (1) is itself a part of the longer-term upward impulse wave 1 from the end of last month.</p>
<p>Given the strength of the support level 3950.00 and the bullish divergence on the daily Stochastic indicator, Gold can be expected to rise to the next resistance level 4200.00 (which stopped the previous impulse wave i).</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Gasoline has been on a roller coaster ride. Ask anyone with a truck, and they&#8217;ll tell you small price changes at the pump have a big impact when the fill-up is over, and the receipt hits your pocket.</p>
<p>Since mid-April, gas prices have gone from $4 for regular unleaded gas to a peak of about $4.57 per gallon before falling back to $3.719 on July 5, according to GasBuddy.com data.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s hard to stick to a budget when gas prices are swinging that much. Consider why the rose rose, and fell, and how little control you had over it: War, and then talk of peace breaking out between the United States and Iran. The Strait of Hormuz closed, then talk of opening up and returning to its old role as the conduit through which 20% of the world&#8217;s crude oil passed through every day.</p>
<p>The savings from mid-May prices to the end of June added up, just like the costs at the peak took a toll &#8212; and you and I have little to say about how it all shakes out next.</p>

<h2>Bad news: the ceasefire didn&#8217;t last long</h2>
<p>Despite those prior peace talks, missiles, drones, and bombers are now blasting away along the Iranian coast and in cities in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman again.</p>
<p>The United States has launched seven straight days of attacks on ports, bridges, and all manner of sites across Iran, but especially in the south.</p>
<p>At the same time, Iran has attacked its neighbors in retaliation. </p>
<p>And oil prices are yet again up. </p>
<p>As of July 18, the U.S. national average price of gasoline is back to $3.999 a gallon, according to AAA data, and about $3.97 per GasBuddy.</p>
<p>Light sweet crude, the U.S. benchmark, has jumped about 14% in a week to $78.28 per 42-gallon barrel. Brent crude, the global benchmark, has risen 16% to about $88 a barrel. Crude oil and Brent crude are both up about 44% so far in 2026.</p>
<p>Retail gasoline prices in the United States are up 41% this year.</p>
<h2>The fighting gets more desperate</h2>
<p>Oil prices are rising not just because the Strait of Hormuz is barely functioning, with Iran, Oman, and the United States arguing over who really controls the waterway.</p>
<p>But the fighting is intensifying. Two U.S. service members were killed and a third was missing on July 18 after Iranian missiles hit their base in Jordan. The fatalities were the first since March.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s now talk that Houthi rebels who live in Yemen next to the Red Sea might block oil tankers from using that waterway to reach the Mediterranean Sea via the Suez Canal. </p>

<p>And then, under orders from Iran, there&#8217;s fear the Houthis might attack tankers that load crude at a Saudi Arabian port on the Red Sea as well, OilPrice.com reported on July 17.</p>
<p>The situation is getting so tense,  an Associated Press report warned, &#8220;A return to full-scale war that would further destabilize the Middle East and disrupt the world economy appears increasingly likely.&#8221;</p>

<h2>The war weighs on markets </h2>
<p>The  uncertainty of the situation is, of course, weighing on American politics and almost certainly will be a factor in deciding what party wins control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate in November. </p>
<p>It is also a big weight on U.S. stocks. The Standard &#038; Poor&#8217;s 500, Nasdaq and the Dow Jones industrials are up 8% to 9% this year. But all three indexes fell in June and are down again so far in July.</p>
<p>A big factor is that semiconductors and technology stocks have hit a lull and have been pulling the major averages lower.  And gains for technology shares are dominating markets. </p>
<p>Uncertainty isn&#8217;t good for the market, gas prices aren&#8217;t good for our wallet, and unfortunately, we are stuck paying the price.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Pursuing financial independence has become a shared discipline for millions of Americans, organized around a deliberate approach to save relentlessly, invest every spare dollar, and let compounding do the rest. For a large share of that community, the framing gets treated less like a strategy and more like gospel.</p>
<p>In practice, the creed often tips into something harsher. Spending gets cut to the bone, rest starts to feel like a leak in the plan, and any upgrade to daily life reads as a failure of will. Whole decades, the prime earning years many people spend in their 20s and 30s, get pledged to a target that always sits somewhere in the future.</p>
<p>This is something I&#8217;ve personally battled in my investing career, and on Friday&#8217;s episode of the BiggerPockets Real Estate Podcast, a warning was issued to anyone trading valuable years, experiences, and general well-being for a future pursuit that, in some ways, is a complete myth.</p>
<p>&#8220;You don&#8217;t have to sacrifice your entire 20s or 30s or any decade on the altar of some number,&#8221; Dave Meyer, host of the BiggerPockets Real Estate Podcast, said on Friday&#8217;s episode.</p>
<h2><strong>The case against sacrificing your best years to save</strong></h2>
<p>Meyer&#8217;s problem is not with discipline itself but with the version of it that never switches off. He describes a mindset common among aggressive savers, where the goal becomes squeezing every possible dollar out of income and treating any enjoyment as a delay. That approach, he argues, confuses a temporary phase with a permanent way of living.</p>
<p>The alternative he lays out is permission to slow down on purpose.</p>
<p>&#8220;It is okay to sometimes take your foot off the gas as long as you are being deliberate about it,&#8221; Meyer said.</p>
<p>The deliberate part is what separates his view from simply spending more. As income climbs, he sees room to let some of that gain show up in daily life without apologizing for it.</p>
<p>&#8220;A reasonable amount of upgrading your life as you grow is not a failure of discipline,&#8221; Meyer said. &#8220;It&#8217;s the reward for working hard.&#8221;</p>

<p>The position lands differently because Meyer did the hard part first. Early in his pursuit of financial independence, he spent three years living in the basement of a friend&#8217;s grandmother and drove a beat-up car, keeping his costs low so more money could go toward investing. He is not arguing against sacrifice from the comfort of having skipped it.</p>
<p>That background is also what turns his message from a comfort into a warning. Savers who treat frugality as the whole point, rather than a stage, risk crossing the finish line only to realize their best years were the price of admission. And when it comes to to a magic financial freedom number, Meyer doesn&#8217;t believe it exists.</p>
<p>&#8220;This idea of a FI number or a magical net worth number is wrong,&#8221; he added. &#8220;It’s actually just kind of a myth. This idea that you hit some number, become free, your problems dissolve, it’s not real.&#8221;</p>

<h2><strong>When easing off beats the next deal</strong></h2>
<p>Meyer backs the argument with trade-offs he says he would choose again. The clearest arrived in the middle of his career, when he steered money set aside for a deal toward something other than property.</p>
<p>&#8220;I decided instead of investing in a new property around 2015 to go back to grad school and I used my money that I had saved up to pay for my tuition,&#8221; Meyer explained.</p>
<p>He said the degree went on to raise his salary, a return the next rental might never have delivered. Other choices were about living rather than earning. <p>None of it, in his telling, derailed the larger goal. The pattern he describes is one of alternating gears rather than a single fixed speed.</p>
<p>&#8220;Sometimes you go hard, you save and invest aggressively, and sometimes you ease off and enjoy the fruits of your labor,&#8221; Meyer added. &#8220;Both are correct at different times.&#8221;</p>
<p>The path to financial independence rarely runs in a straight line, and it can plateau or dip along the way. Meyer&#8217;s case is to budget the ease-off spending on things that actually matter, to measure success as being further along than a year ago, and to mark those gains instead of staring at a number that may still be years out.</p>

<p>That&#8217;s exactly what she&#8217;s doing with AMD this week, selling more shares after the chipmaker&#8217;s recent pullback.</p>
<p>In 2025, Wood&#8217;s flagship Ark Innovation ETF gained 35.49%, far outpacing the S&#038;P 500’s return of 17.88% in the same period. But so far this year, Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK) is down <strong>3.43%</strong> as of July 17, while the S&#038;P 500 surged <strong>8.94</strong>%, Yahoo Finance data shows.</p>
<p>Wood gained a reputation after Ark Innovation ETF delivered a 153% return in 2020. But her style also brings painful losses in bearish markets, as seen in 2022, when the fund tumbled more than 60%.</p>
<p>Those swings have weighed on Wood’s long-term gains. As of July 19, Ark Innovation ETF has delivered a five-year annualized return of <strong>-8.23%</strong>, while the S&#038;P 500 has an annualized return of <strong>11.50%</strong> over the same period, according to data from Morningstar.</p>
<h2><strong>Cathie Wood flags “the deflationary impact” of tech innovation</strong></h2>
<p>Wood focuses on high-tech companies across artificial intelligence, blockchain, biomedical technology, and robotics. She thinks these businesses have strong growth potential, though their volatility often causes fluctuations in the Ark’s funds.</p>
<p>From 2014 to 2024, Ark Innovation ETF wiped out $7 billion in investor wealth, according to a March 2025 analysis by Morningstar’s analyst Amy Arnott. That made it the third-biggest wealth destroyer among mutual funds and ETFs in Arnott’s ranking. The analyst hasn’t updated her ranking.</p>
<p>Wood believes investors have been focusing on the wrong signals as they assess the outlook for inflation, interest rates, and stocks.</p>
<p>In a June post on X, Wood said the bond market is increasingly reflecting the deflationary impact of technological innovation, particularly artificial intelligence, rather than the inflation risks many investors still fear.</p>

<p>Wood pointed to the continued flattening of the Treasury yield curve despite a sharp rise in oil prices over the past year. In previous cycles, she noted, an energy shock of that magnitude would have pushed long-term yields higher. </p>
<p>Wood believes the bond market is &#8220;discounting something much more powerful: the deflationary impact of technological innovation, particularly artificial intelligence, which is beginning to increase productivity across broad swaths of the economy. &#8221;</p>
<p>She also said easing tensions with Iran and a decline in oil prices could push inflation even lower.</p>
<p>&#8220;The next phase of this cycle could be characterized by accelerating growth, declining inflation, falling interest rates, and a strengthening U.S. dollar,&#8221; Wood said. &#8220;That combination would create a remarkably supportive backdrop for innovation-led equities and the technologies driving the next productivity boom.&#8221;</p>
<p>But not all investors agree with Wood’s optimism. Over the past 12 months through July 16, Ark Innovation ETF saw roughly $1.26 billion in net outflows, according to data from ETF research firm VettaFi. </p>

<h2><strong>Cathie Wood sells $11.7 million of AMD stock</strong></h2>
<p>On July 17, Wood’s Ark funds sold 23,573 shares of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), according to Ark’s daily trade information. Based on the July 17 closing price of $495.76, the shares are valued at about $11.7 million.</p>
<p>Wood has been steadily trimming her AMD position over the past few months and has continued doing so in July. Including the latest sale, Ark has sold 137,421 AMD shares this month, worth about $68.1 million based on the latest closing price.</p>
<p>Shares of AMD fell more than 11% over the past week as semiconductor stocks pulled back. The selloff was triggered by Micron Technology (MU), which came under pressure amid concerns about rising competition from a Chinese chipmaker peer. </p>

<p>According to Barron&#8217;s, Chinese memory-chip maker ChangXin Memory Technologies is preparing a Shanghai IPO that could raise up to 66.7 billion yuan ($9.8 billion).</p>
<p>Although AMD mainly focuses on CPUs and GPUs and doesn&#8217;t compete in the memory market, the stock fell as investors took profits across the semiconductor sector after its strong run this year.</p>
<p>Even after the recent pullback, AMD stock was still up 131.5% year to date, outperforming the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index&#8217;s 62.8% gain. Its bigger competitor, Nvidia (NVDA), was up just 8.7%.</p>
<p>At AMD&#8217;s Advancing AI 2026 event, on July 22 and 23, CEO Lisa Su is expected to unveil updates on the company&#8217;s AI roadmap, including the MI450X accelerator, the MI500 GPU family and next-generation server processors.</p>
<p>Ahead of the event, UBS raised its price target on AMD to $700 from $670 while maintaining a buy rating, according to a recent research note.</p>
<p>The firm said supply-chain checks point to stronger demand for AMD&#8217;s AI accelerators through 2027, and suggested Amazon could become a major customer for the MI450X platform. </p>
<p>UBS also raised its 2027 revenue forecast for AMD to $83.4 billion from $79.2 billion, and increased its earnings estimate to $14.63 per share.</p>
<p>In May, AMD reported strong first-quarter results. The company raised its forecast for the data center CPU market, citing growing demand for agentic AI, and reiterated that it expects its AI GPU business to exceed its long-term target of 80% annual revenue growth. The company is to deliver its next earnings results in August.</p>
<p>AMD remains the eighth-largest holding in the Ark Innovation ETF despite Wood&#8217;s recent selling.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>“When was the last time you had a creation tool that was so editorially controlled?” <strong>Microsoft (MSFT) </strong>CEO Satya Nadella quizzed engineers while taking shots at Anthropic’s much-talked-about Fable model, according to CNBC reporting.</p>
<p>That remark was puzzling because Microsoft has hardly been an outsider to Anthropic’s tremendous come-from-behind story.</p>
<p>For some context, Microsoft has pledged up to $5 billion to the startup, integrates Anthropic models into Copilot and Foundry, and could collect billions in Azure revenue under Anthropic’s $30 billion cloud commitment. </p>
<p>Essentially, Nadella is challenging a partner that is a pretty big customer.</p>
<p>On a surface level, the dispute can look more like an argument over AI refusals, but there’s something a lot broader in play here. </p>
<p>Companies are willing to use cheaper models, and Microsoft is developing more of its own technology while executives question whether frontier labs should control access to the most capable systems. </p>
<p>In fact, I covered Nadella’s recent blog post, in which he talked about companies paying twice for AI, with buyers essentially giving up their knowledge to use a service they have already purchased.</p>
<p>In many ways, Nadella’s criticism reveals where Microsoft believes power in enterprise AI is shifting next.</p>
<h2><strong>Nadella attacks a valued AI partner </strong></h2>
<p>Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella isn’t holding back on Anthropic’s restrictions on its most advanced Fable model, calling the system unusually constrained for a creative tool.</p>
<p>Nadella noted to Microsoft engineers working on Copilot that Fable can refuse requests that appear harmless. “It doesn’t make sense,” he added, according to CNBC.</p>

<p>For some perspective, Anthropic actually acknowledges that its safeguards might block some legitimate prompts. </p>
<p>After briefly suspending Fable to comply with a U.S. export-control directive, the company restored access on July 1 but also warned that the updated protections might flag a slightly higher share of harmless requests. </p>
<p>Certain queries, including those involving large-scale model development, could potentially be redirected to an older model.</p>
<p>However, Nadella’s argument extends beyond safety filters. He is increasingly questioning an AI economy dominated by a few frontier laboratories charging businesses for access to expensive computing.</p>
<p>“It can’t be that there are only two companies in the world with token capital, and everybody else is renting it,” Nadella said, as CNBC reported. “It makes no economic sense.”</p>

<h2><strong>What Fable’s safeguards actually do </strong></h2>
<p>“Claude Fable 5 includes robust safeguards for cybersecurity and biology,&#8221; according to Anthropic’s support page. &#8220;Many queries in these domains are automatically routed to Opus 4.8 if flagged by these safeguards. You won’t be charged Fable prices for rerouted requests.”</p>
<p>That fallback became doubly important after Fable 5 was suspended on June 12 under a U.S. export-control directive. </p>
<p>Later, on July 1, Anthropic restored access and deployed a stronger classifier to address a reported safeguard bypass. The company says the updated system blocks that technique in more than 99% of cases, with flagged requests sent to Opus 4.8.</p>
<p>These restrictions offer Anthropic a wider safety buffer against harmful cyber or biological use, but legitimate coding, debugging, and security work can be downgraded to an older model. </p>
<p>The big issue is that users can still receive an answer at a lower price but lose the capability for which they selected Fable. This explains Nadella’s frustration with its practical limits.</p>
<h2><strong>Are Fable’s safeguards really “editorial control”? </strong></h2>
<p>I did some digging, and what can be safely concluded is that the problem isn&#8217;t what Anthropic thinks; it&#8217;s that its safety system appears to be overly cautious. </p>
<p>For instance, The Verge tested the original June release of Fable 5; the model redirected multiple ordinary questions to Opus 4.8:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Clearly harmless:</strong> “What are mitochondria?” “How do mRNA vaccines work?” and “What causes hay fever?”</li>
<li><strong>Harmless but related to health care:</strong> Questions about cell membranes, prions, asthma medicine, antibiotic resistance, and how Ebola spreads.</li>
<li><strong>Potentially dangerous:</strong> Requests involving sarin gas or making anthrax, where restrictions were easier to justify.</li>
</ul>
<p>The publication said the mitochondria refusal was most likely to be an obvious false positive, but it’s also important to consider that the tests were done using the launch version.</p>
<p>However, post-redeployment stories point to an even more complicated boundary.</p>
<p>For example, I looked at a Reddit post apparently by a cancer researcher, who said that Fable downgraded even &#8220;Hi,&#8221; an R coding question, the weather, and World Cup viewing information because biological terms stored in the user’s memory were considered. </p>
<p>In commenting on that post, Reddit user shiftingsmith had an interesting observation.</p>
<p>“The saddest thing is that this is the best model ever created for autonomous scientific research; it was advertised with a video featuring butterflies, biology and science; and it was given to the public as a &#8220;freebie/test&#8221; version to get a taste of its power&#8230; And then restricted to hell.”</p>
<p>Another user in that specific post talked about how Fable downgraded a request to review whether responses to peer reviewers for a mycology paper were coherent. The exact prompt and context weren’t revealed, though.</p>
<p>Also, it should be noted that these accounts are self-reported, not independently reproduced.</p>
<p>These examples, though, point to more aggressive technical risk management, instead of political censorship.</p>
<p>Nevertheless, it’s unfair to say Nadella’s claims are baseless.</p>
<p>From the user’s perspective, Anthropic is deciding:</p>
<ul>
<li>Which subjects receive access to the strongest model</li>
<li>Which model is allowed to answer</li>
<li>How much ambiguity users are permitted</li>
<li>Whether context is treated as defensive or dangerous</li>
</ul>
<p>That is a form of product-level control, even if the claim is that it’s being driven by safety.</p>
<h2><strong>Nadella’s position also serves Microsoft’s interests </strong></h2>
<p>One of the more interesting things with Nadella’s criticism is that there&#8217;s clear contradiction.</p>
<p>Microsoft’s relationship with Anthropic is well documented, yet there&#8217;s ample reason to believe it wouldn’t want Anthropic, OpenAI, or any other major lab to become indispensable. </p>
<p>A single dominant model will likely lead to massive bargaining power over pricing, access, and product rules. </p>
<p>At the same time, it’s likely to bump costs and restrict specific use cases or result in competing applications that weaken Microsoft’s relationship with its customers. </p>
<p>Another big risk is that Microsoft becomes nothing more than an infrastructure provider behind someone else’s platform.</p>
<p>So a fragmented market works a lot better for Microsoft.</p>
<p>Foundry can offer thousands of models, while Copilot routes each task to the option that best balances capability, cost, and safety.</p>
<p>Routine work can run on cheaper models, while the more demanding tasks are sent to frontier systems. That flexibility will lower Microsoft’s costs and reduce its dependence on any one supplier.</p>
<p>What’s more important is that the model becomes replaceable while Microsoft retains the valuable layers around it: Azure computing, corporate data, security, governance, software distribution, and the customer relationship.</p>

<p>D-Wave Quantum is not expensive because quantum computing is hyped. It is expensive because the market is valuing the wrong number. At $16.73 as of July 17, 2026, QBTS carries a $6.20 billion market capitalisation against $12.44 million of trailing-twelve-month revenue — roughly 498 times sales. That multiple is meaningless, and treating it as the bear case is the most common analytical error in quantum-stock coverage. The number that actually matters is remaining performance obligations of $42.4 million, up 563% year on year, and record quarterly bookings of $33.4 million. Value the company on contracted future work rather than recognised revenue and the multiple falls to roughly 146 times. Still extreme. But it is a different argument, and it is the argument the bull and bear cases are genuinely fighting over.</p>
<p>Here is the tension nobody is pricing cleanly. In Q1 2026 D-Wave&#8217;s bookings rose nearly 2,000% year on year while its revenue <em>fell</em> to $2.9 million. Those two facts are not contradictory — they are the signature of a business selling physical systems and multi-year contracts, where cash commitments land years before revenue recognition. Having covered enterprise-software bookings-to-revenue conversion cycles across several verticals, the pattern is familiar: a widening gap between bookings and revenue is either the earliest possible signal of product-market fit, or the earliest possible signal of a company buying growth it cannot deliver. The conversion timeline tells you which. In SaaS that answer arrives in four quarters. In quantum hardware it arrives in three to five years, which is precisely why the $37 bull case and the $13 bear case can both be defended from the same filing.</p>
